Attorney Bio
Elizabeth S. Ritter practices in the areas of general business and corporate law, mergers, business planning and formation, and intellectual property. In the corporate arena, she has advised numerous companies on the practical, business and legal consequences of their choice of entity selection and has formed numerous corporations and limited liability companies, as well as nonprofit corporations. As part of the entity formation process, Ms. Ritter has assisted in the negotiation and drafting of buy sell provisions, employment contracts and other agreements among those involved in the business.
Ms. Ritter has also served as a part-time in-house counsel for several of the firm’s larger clients. Any business has an ongoing need for legal review. In providing such a review, Ms. Ritter can aid the client in heading off legal problems before they become serious by encouraging the client to be proactive in the management of and operation of their business. She has encountered a host of business issues in her practice, and can bring that experience to your business. Contract review, warranty review, maintenance of corporate records, due diligence reviews, review and drafting of employment agreements and the development of a corporate record keeping policy are a few examples of the services Ms. Ritter might provide when serving as an in-house counsel resource.
Ms. Ritter also practices in the area of intellectual property, and maintains that a company’s identity is one of its most valuable assets. She has aided clients in everything from the selection of their trademark to its registration and enforcement. Additionally, the protection of creative works, ranging from artwork to literary works to computer software, through copyright registration is an integral part of our intellectual property practice. Ms. Ritter regularly advises clients concerning the licensing, policing and enforcement of their copyright rights. She has filed for and successfully registered numerous copyrights and trademarks in the course of her practice.
Ms. Ritter received her Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law. While in law school, Ms. Ritter worked as a judicial clerk for an appellate judge and as a law clerk for a firm specializing in toxic torts and environmental law. She has practiced at the Goodrich Law Firm since August of 2003.
Ms. Ritter is a member of both the Alabama State Bar and the Georgia State Bar. Ms. Ritter is a member of the American Bar Association, where she is a member of the Section of Intellectual Property Law’s Committee on Federal Trademark Legislation, the Section of Business Law’s Committees on Corporate Documents and Process, Corporate Governance, Emerging Companies and Middle Market and Small Business and the Young Lawyer Division’s Business Law Committee and Intellectual Property Law Committee. She is also a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, where she is a member of its Solo Practice and Small Firms Section.
